Scotland 2009

Largs
Wemyss Bay
Cumbrae
Bute
Arran
Wemyss Bay - (12 April to 18th April 2009)   We stayed at the Parkdean Caravan Park, Wemyss Bay whilst Matt went to the Youth competition.

The picture here is of the view from the caravan park.  This small town has what I would say to be the BEST Victorian Train Station/ Ferry port I have ever seen.  I can see why it is Listed as Grade A, it is absolutely stunning.
Cumbrae -  This Island is just a 20 minute ferry ride away from Largs.  It its main town is Milport and is about 3 miles from where the ferry lands.  Catching a local bus if you are a foot passenger is the only option unless you want to walk.
The town of Milport has just of the main street, what is supposed to be Europes smallest Cathedral - the Cathedral of the Isles.  It also has for rent the most weirdest bicycle I have ever seen, made by a German company. ( see the picture by clicking the picture at the side)  The bay at Milport is fairly sheltered for visiting yachtsmen.
Bute - We caught a ferry to the main town on Bute called Rothesay, the ferry crossing is slightly longer than the 20 minutes to Cumbrae, at 30 minutes.
When you dock and you will see on the other side of the pier, a very sheltered marina for visiting yachts and for a 9mtr, about £15.00 per night is very reasonable.  Within a stones throw of the marina, is what can only be described as the best little Victorian music hall/theatre I have seen ( the twin towers either side of the entrance is shown to the left.  The building now houses a small cinema at the back and at the front the Tourist office ( The Bute discovery centre).
Arran - This Island, for me, is a delight .  We took a ferry from Ardrossan to the town of  Brodick , the crossing took 55 minutes.  Where the ferry docks there are a few public swing moorings for visiting yachts, but it seems to be the norm to in fact go slightly south to the village of Lamlash which is sheltered in the bay that is also protected Holy Island a little island situated at the front of the the bay.  Also at Lamlash is the Sailing club, where they sail dinghies in the safety of the protection offered in the bay by  Holy Island.  There are also some swing moorings for visiting yachts.
If it is a Marina that is required then yachts should sail to the North of the Island to Lochranza, not far from the distillery.

Largs - ( 12 April to 18 April 2009) This is a sunset view from the sea front at Largs, on the West Coast of Scotland, we visited the area as Matt was competing in the RYA UK Youth Championship. ( please see foto’s of this event elsewhere).

The town of Largs has a fantastic Marina and from here is easy access either by sailing ( the preferred option) or by taking the ferry ( sadly we had to take this option)
