Volvo Youth Nationals 2009
Arrival;- Well we arrived on Saturday early afternoon at the Largs Sailing club, home this year to the Volvo Youth nationals.  The first things to do was to make sure Matt was registered and signed in, then  to get his Laser measured, according to the Laser Association.  This was duly done and it was signed off.  All was set and ready for the forth coming week.
Sun. 12 April;- We arrived mid morning and Matt went out for a practice sail, with his friends whilst  the parents sampled the hospitality of the club , found the beer required a mortgage to buy a pint!!!! So instead we went for a walk around the Marina and spotted a few other Hanses.
Mon. 13 April;- A cold damp sort of day but no rain, with winds of about 14 knots.  So the racing begun at 11am and the intention was to get three races in today. This was achieved with a dropping wind and as such the last race was a struggle.
Tue. 14 April;-  A dryer day today with winds about 20 knots sun trying to shine, making it warmer than Monday. Intention again was to get three races in. Sadly only two races achieved as gusts were increasing and the direction was so unpredictable, as the wind was swinging in complete circles.
Wed. 15 April;- More sunshine, more wind, mid twenties, gusting mid thirties, direction just as unpredictable, so racing was delayed - Princess Anne then paid a visit to the event and spoke to Matt, Cameron and Shane, and the conversation started of with “ yes the 29er is a sexy boat”.  Anyway racing soon followed and one race was completed, and all Lasers arrived back safely but this could not be said for the 29er fleet, as 3 or 4 had to be towed back with damage ranging from broken Masts to rigging.
Thu. 16 April;- NO RACING WINDS TO STRONG
Fri 17 April;-  NO RACING WINDS TO STRONG
Sat 18 April;-  Today we start the long drive home, but not before a bit of R & R a trip on the ferry and a visit to the Island of Arran.
